I Ching Hexagram 48: 井 “The Well” – Ching

What Is I Ching Hexagram 48: 井 “The Well” ?

Ching is the Chinese name of the I Ching Hexagram 48. With inner and outer trigrams forming water over wind, this Hexagram is called ‘the well’ or alternatively named ‘welling’.

Hexagram 48 symbolizes the need to nourish and strengthen the soul constantly as the flow of time is always moving and continuing.

When we are caught up in the ever changing events, we can sometimes lose sight of our basic needs. The nourishing of the soul is a constant need that is often put out of mind when other pressing matters become more important.

Interpretation & Meaning of IChing Hexagram 48: 井 "The Well" - Ching

Interpretation & Meaning of Hexagram 48:

Hexagram 48 is another reminder of how time is in a constant flow and always moving into a new direction or phase in life.

It is easy to become distracted from what is most important in life when we turn our eyes to the worldly wants. Finding love or a life partner and being successful at work seem to be the most important things to obtain in life but then we forget what is truly the important: the self.

In order to live through life successfully, we must remember to always love ourselves first and work hard to maintain a state of great health. It is easy to let ourselves go when we fight hard to obtain mainly worldly possessions.

When we are focused on taking care of the body a little bit each day, it is then easier to clear the mind in order to retain positive feelings. It is easy for our minds to be clouded with random thoughts that fight to take the main focus.

This is where we decide what is important and what is just a waste of time. In the mind is where we rationalize all of our bad decisions that affect the state of our bodies and mind.

Learning to calm the storms of the mind can bring light back into mind and help keep it clear from infiltrating thoughts. Finding ways to feel uplifted and renewed are ideal when feeling trapped or contained under the weight of the world.

I Ching Hexagram 48 – Personal Goals:

Take time out of each day to do something productive for the strengthening of the body. This could be rethinking what types of food and drink we consume in order to change the type of production our bodies are willing to give us.

Accurate IChing Forecasts

If we are not willing to nourish our bodies properly, then eventually our bodies will start to break down. Exercise is an important part of maintaining the body and can be done as simply as biking to work each day or taking the time to take a pet on a long walk. Spending time outside is a great way to clear the breathing processes of the body.

Seek enlightenment through wisdom that will bring nourishment back into the soul. When we have a strong core, then we will be able to overcome all sorts of difficulties.

I Ching Hexagram 48 – Love:

The soul is the most difficult to keep strong and nourished. It is the most neglected part of the body but it is the most important. When we have a weak soul, we fall under the influence of others much easier and fail in love.

I Ching Hexagram 48 – Career & Business:

Hexagram 48 shows the need to resort back to a simpler form of living in order to strengthen the soul. Without a strong mind, body, and soul, there can be only a progression into a difficult time. Learn to help others to progress and thus help yourself too.

THE WELL. The town may be changed,
But the well cannot be changed.
It neither decreases nor increases.
They come and go and draw from the well.
If one gets down almost to the water
And the rope does not go all the way,
Or the jug breaks, it brings misfortune.

Water over wood: the image of THE WELL.
Thus the superior man encourages the people at their work,
And exhorts them to help one another.

Hexagram 48 is a reminder of the importance in life. Taking the time to prepare the body, mind, and soul will allow for a steady progression in life. It might take time at first to become aware of ourselves.

But once we are able to strengthen our bodies, we are then able to influence others to do the same thing. Understand that everyone goes through this phase in life and learning from others can help start this great change within us.
