Jera – Upright Meaning
Realization of carefully laid plans, prosperity, growth, and fruitfulness, happiness. A breaking of the Ice of stagnation, and shining hopes for the future and dreams of prosperity. The culmination of work and effort resulting in a deserved reward. Signifier of change.
The Jera rune of the Elder Futhark means year, or harvest. It is the turning of the same, the symbol of change coming after the ice of Isaz. When the spring comes and the ice thaws, it is a time of warmth, change, growth. Much is forgotten in the light of the spring sun that during a long winter was vexing.
Jera stone in a rune reading indicates the turning of life, engendering the power of the universe always in change. It also signifies the promise of coming success through the efforts of the previous year.
When we have properly planted our fields, tended them, and kept them well, then the crops will grow high and we will reap much reward from them.
Jera indicates the hopes and dreams of the time between planting and harvesting, and the ultimate culmination of those hopes into peace and prosperity of the future.
Jera – Merkstave Meaning (Reversed)
A break in the pattern of our existence, a sudden and unexpected complication, a reversal of progress, traumatic change, repetition and living in a rut, a tendency to poor timing, being destitute, and conflict.
The Merkstave Jera indicates a breaking in the cycle, and undermining of our expectations. Perhaps the seeds of our plan were not properly laid out in the beginning.
Perhaps we let weeds fester and grow and through our carelessness there is no harvest. The Merkstave Jera speaks of a major change, a repeated unhealthy and profitless cycle.
When there is no harvest, we are doomed to spend the next year destitute, or struggling through a time of shortage in our supplies. Know that the harvest need not be literal.
If we have not been fostering our money, we will see no growth in our wealth. If we have not been shepherding out mind and soul, then we will remain as we were before, stuck in old ways.
The Merkstave Jera is a warning against not being prepared, and an indicator of the consequences of not heeding those warnings.
