Ray Romano is an actor, stand-up comedian, and screenwriter from the United States of America. Born on December 21, 1957, he played the lead role in the sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” from 1996 to 2005 for which he is best known. He also wrote some episodes of the sitcom. Ray Romano received an Emmy Award for his performance in the series. From 2009 to 2011, he created and featured in the comedy-drama“ Men of a Certain Age.”He followed it with a role as Hank Rizzoli in “Parenthood” from 2012 to 2015. Ray Romano lent his voice for the character Manny in the film Ice Age, 2016. He has won several awards throughout his career.

Early Life And Education

Ray Romano was born on December 21, 1957, in Queens, New York, as the second child of three by Lucie (née Fortini) and Albert Romano. His father was an engineer and real estate agent and his mother a piano teacher. His elder brother, Richard Romano works with the NYPD and younger brother, Robert Romano is a teacher. He was raised at Forest Hills. Romano received his early education at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills and continued at the Archbishop Molloy High School. He later transferred to Hillcrest High School where he graduated in 1975. He later studied accounting at Queens College, in Flushing, New York but later dropped out.

Everybody Loves Raymond

Performing stand-up comedy on Late Show with David Letterman built a form of relationship between Ray Romano and CBS. This earned him a role in the popular CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond in 1996. Ray Romano played the character Raymond, a father, and husband living close to his parents. The role won him an Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002 with the sitcom winning an Emmy for Best Comedy in 2003. He also had nominations for two Golden Globes Awards and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. The role also made him the highest-paid television actor in history. He starred alongside Kelvin James in comedy Grilled. In the year 2000, he featured in an episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, winning $125,000 for the D.A.R.E unit of NYPD.

Other Works

In 2002, he played Hank Rizzoli in Parenthood. That same year, he lent his voice for the character Manfred (Manny) in the film Ice Age and its later squeals Ice Age: The Meltdown, 2006, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, 2009, Ice Age: Continental Drift, 2012 and Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016. In 2008, he starred in the TNT drama-comedy, Men of a Certain Age, co-starring Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula. He created it with Mike Royce, the writer for Everybody Loves Raymond. He then played the role of Mery Bronte in the seventh season of NBC series The Office. His next role was as Nicky in the ABC sitcom, The Middle starring Patricia Heaton, co-star of Everybody Loves Raymond. Ray Romano is currently playing the lead role in the comedy series Get Shorty.

Personal Life

Ray Romano is married to Anna Scarpulla since 1987. The couple met while working at a bank. They have four children, namely Alexandra, twin boys, Matthew and Gregory, and Joseph. Anna is a stage one breast cancer survivor who successfully received treatment in 2010. Romano revealed this in 2012. In an interview with People magazine, Romano said, "the reason we're going public is to share our experience, yeah, but to have an effect. Our goal is to help people."
