Meryl Elizabeth Davis is an American ice dancer. She partnered with Charlie White in the 2014 Olympic game and achieved a Silver in the 2010 Meryl is a World Champion, Grand Prix Final Champion, Four Continents champion and US national champion. Meryl won the bronze in 2014 Winter Olympics

Early Life

Meryl Davis was born to the couple Cheryl and Paul D. Davis. Meryl has one younger brother, Clayton. She was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and brought up in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. The parentage of Meryl Davis is from English, Irish, Scottish and German. Her grandmother from father’s side was from Regina, Saskatchewan. In her childhood, she was having difficulty is speaking.

Education

Meryl Davis studied in Wylie E. Groves High School and graduated in 2005. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She is now attending the University of Michigan and is specializing in cultural anthropology. She is also perusing Italian.

Meryl Davis is a member of Delta DeltaDelta, and she is representing UNISIF Kid Power from March 2016. She is a good flute player.

Career

Meryl Davis began learning skating at a tender age of five during winter. Davis started practicing ice dance at the age of eight.

Meryl Davis started skate dancing with Charlie White as advised by her tutor Seth Chafetz in 1997. During the first session with White, they achieved a silver at the intermediate level in the young team. Together, they participated in the Junior Olympics in 1990 at the intermediate level and won a gold. During 2000-01, they were competent to participate in the 2001 US Championships, and they were graded 6th as Novices. They progressed to junior level in 2001-02 after winning a silver as novices.

She and White could not get any medal at Junior Grand Prix tasks. They achieved the 7th place in their premiere at the 2003 US Championships in the junior group.

Meryl Davis and White duo, in their 2004-05 term achieved a silver at the Nationals at the junior level. This achievement deserved an excursion to the 2004 Junior Worlds, and they achieved the 13th place. Meryl Davis and White won two bronze medals at the ISU Junior Grand Prix during 2004-2005 term. In view of ankle injury to White, they could not meet the requirements for 2004-2006 US Championships.

Meryl Davis and White during the 2005-2006 session, they qualified for Junior Grand Prix competition and ranked 2nd at the final of Junior Grand Prix Final. Together, they got junior national championship at the 2006 US Championship and went ton to participate at the 2006 Junior Worlds and achieved a bronze. By this time, Davis was over aged for juniors and had to quit junior group. White suffered injury to his ankle during a hockey match in 2006.

Meryl Davis and White, in 2006-07 made their premiere at the national and international level as seniors. They achieved 4th rank in their 2006-07 ISU Grand Prix tasks. They achieved the level fours in the NHK Trophy in 2006. In 2007, they achieved a bronze medal at the 2007 U.S. Championships at the senior level and thus became eligible for the 2007 World Championships. Meryl Davis/White was the first team to reach the World Team directly from the Junior national championship.

Meryl Davis/White became eligible for the Four Continents Championship and graded fourth. Davis group was positioned 7th at the premiere of the American ice dancers at Worlds.

Meryl Davis and White duo graded 4th at the 2007 Skate America and successfully won their debut Grand Prix decoration at the 2007 Trophee Eric Bompard. They competed in the 2008 Four Continents and graded sixth at the World Championships.

Meryl Davis and White, in the 2008-09 term, achieved their first Grand Prix task, the 2008 Skate Canada. In their 2nd task, they achieved the 2008 Cup of Russia, and they were graded third in the obligatory dance. Since White fell twice and faltered on rapid movements of dance, they were graded eighth in the original dance. However, their gold at the Skate Canada made them eligible for the first Grand Prix Final. During the 2008-09 term, Davis and White achieved a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final.

Meryl Davis and White were qualified for a gold at the 2009 National Championships since the leading champions Belbin/Agosto pulled out from the competition due to physical inability. They were ahead by 20 points over Emily Samuelson/Evan Bates who achieved silver.

Meryl Davis/White was triumphant in the 2009 Four Continents Championship and achieved the ice dance title. They were second rank in both compulsory and original dance. Davis/White was graded 4th at the 2009 World Championships

Meryl Davis/White played the 2009 Nebelhorn Trophy, reaching a first in all divisions. They scored 200.46 points to get a gold. They put behind Alexandrda Zaretsky/Roman Zaretsky who achieved a silver.

Meryl Davis/White earned the 2009 Rostelecom Cup and the 2009 NHK Trophy which qualified them to 2009-10 Grand Prix Final. They were the first American ice dancers to achieve the original dance and won the overall title. They gained the second title at the National level when they defeated the earlier training pair, Belbin/Agosto. Meryl Davis/White was second at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and bagged a silver. They won the silver at the 2010 World Championship.

Meryl Davis and White were uncrowned kings in the 2010-2011 term. They were allotted to the 2010 NHK Trophy and 2010 Skate America as part of 2010-11 ISU Grand Prix. They achieved a gold keeping in view of the total performance. The results made them eligible for the 2010-2011 Grand Prix Final. Davis/White successively earned the national title at the US Championships held at Greensboro, North Carolina.

Meryl Davis/White, in 2011 Four Continents Championships they were at the second place to Virtue/Moir in the short dance. Virtue/Moir pulled out of the competition, Meryl Elizabeth Davis/White triumphant in the free dance. Meryl Davis/White was triumphant at the 2011 World Championships and graded second in the short dance. They got a gold defeating the Olympian and World titleholder Virtue/Moir. This was their premiere United States first ice dancing World championship.

2011-12 term: They were allotted two Grand Prix events – 2011 Skate America and 2011 Cup of Russia. They introduced music La Strada for the free dance later changed to Die Fledermaus. Gained a gold at Skate America.

Meryl Davis/White competed in the 2011 Rostelecom Cup. Their achievement made them eligible for the 2011-12Grand Prix Final, and they got a first.

2012-13 term: Meryl Davis/White were asked to contest at the 2012 Skate America and the 2012 NHK Trophy. They bagged gold in both the competition.

Meryl Davis/White achieved their debut four Grand Prix Final. They gained fifth successive National title in 2013. They were not vanquished in the term and gained a gold at the 2013 Four Continents. Meryl Davis/White vanquished Virtue/Moir at the World Championships in March

2013-14 term: Meryl Davis/White functioned with Derek Hough and Alex Wong during 2013and 2014. Their programme, entitled How to Raise an Olympian was aired on NBV Television. They participated in 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and got a bronze. They achieved the first Olympic gold medal for Americans in ice dancing. In 2014, they presented with Stars on Icein.

Meryl Davis and White are still presenting together in ice demonstrations. They have now decided to not to part take in competitions.
