Childhood And Early Life

American actress Candice Bergen was born on the 9 May 1946 in Beverly Hills, California to Frances Westerman, a model, and Edgar Bergen, an actor, and ventriloquist.

Education

She was a pupil at the Westlake School for Girls in Los Angeles as well as the Cathedral School in Washington DC. After graduating, she was sent to a finishing school in Switzerland. After returning from school in Europe, Candice Bergen enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania but left at the end of her sophomore year. During her time at university, she started modeling and also became interested in photography.

Rise To Fame

Candice Bergen was exposed to the entertainment industry as a child, and at a young age, she took part in her father’s radio programme as well as the quiz show You Bet Your Life, which was hosted by Groucho Marx. After dropping out of university, Bergen worked as a successful Ford model before concentrating on acting.

Acting Career

Early roles include The Group (1966), The Sand Pebbles (1966) and The Magus (1968), The Adventurers (1970) and Western Soldier Blue (1970), The Hunting Party (1971), Carnal Knowledge (1971), Bite the Bullet (1975), Starting Over (1979). During the 1980s she starred opposite Jacqueline Bisset in Rich and Famous (1981). And in 1982 her role as a photographer in Gandhi (1982) won her a BAFTA nomination. She appeared on Broadway om Hurlyburly (1985)/ Candice Bergen also starred on television during the 1980s. Including a role in the series Hollywood Wives (1985). Then in 1988, she was offered the role of the lead character in Murphy Brown (1989-1998) playing a single mother and recovering alcoholic working as a television journalist.

Later Years

Later work includes Miss Congeniality (2000), Sweet Home Alabama (2002) and The In-Laws (2003). She was offered a role in the television series Boston Legal in 2004 (2005-2010) In early 2018 it was reported that Murphy Brown was to be revived by CBC debuting. The series will debut during the 2018-2019 season with Bergen in the title.

Personal Life

She married French film director Louis Malle in 1980, and they remained married until his death in 1995. The couple had one child, a daughter Chloe. Candice Bergen married Marshall Rose, a real estate developer. In 2016 her memoir A Fine Romance as published. She had earlier published a memoir Knock Wood in 1984.

Awards And Achievements

During her student days, Candice Bergen was the Homecoming Queen as well as Miss University. In 1992, Candice Bergen was presented with an honorary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. For her work in Murphy Brown, Bergen won five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.
