The legend of the unicorn is a strange and mysterious one. No one knows where the myth of the unicorn came from, or no two groups can agree on where the unicorn came from. Many cultural groups from ancient times believed that unicorns were real animals, so many countries didn’t even have an origin story for the creature. They may have just thought that unicorns were made when the rest of the natural animals on Earth were formed. Because there is no real origin story for the unicorn, there is more mystery to the myth of the unicorn.
Although no cultures can agree on when the unicorn came into existence, it is a common belief that the animal came from India. Many other mythical creatures were believed to come from India, including the Griffin, which is said to be just about as powerful as the unicorn symbol.
The unicorn symbolism is mentioned in cultures all over the world, no matter where it came from. The unicorn is mentioned in ancient Greek texts, as well as in the Bible. Since the unicorn is said in so many different cultures and times around the world, it begs to ask the question, did the unicorn exist?
There are some recent theories on how the unicorn came to exist, not how it came to this Earth, but how people think cultures from long ago were confused about the creature’s existence. Nearly everyone has seen a picture of a unicorn. Most people see them like a horse with a horn sticking out of its forehead. While horses don’t have horns, several animals do. For instance, goats, rhinos, and narwhals all have horns, and they all help to contribute to the story of the unicorn.
In some pictures, unicorns are drawn with little beards, like the ones that goats are known to have. While goats have two horns, it is possible that they could be mutated or hurt and only have one horn. While a goat isn’t as majestic as a unicorn, it could be one theory that could work.
While a rhinoceres is a big and bulky animal, sometimes unicorns were described as being bulky as well. Although, this theory is less likely than the goat theory. Lastly, although the narwhal is aquatic, it does have a long horn that looks much like the horns that unicorns are usually drawn with. Some European travelers cut off narwhal horns and sold them as unicorn horns. In fact, some of these “unicorn horns” are even in museums today.
The horn of the unicorn symbol is important, as it is said to have some magical powers, like the rest of the unicorn. The horn is said to be able to have healing powers, but it can also be used as a deadly weapon. The unicorn is said to only be caught by virgins. If caught by a real virgin, the unicorn would be friendly towards the person. However, if someone was pretending to be a virgin in order to catch a unicorn, the unicorn would not hesitate to kill the person with their horn. While the unicorn is usually depicted as a gentle creature, it is also a powerful animal that can either chose to either bless or kill.
Because the unicorn chooses to be the kindest to virgins, it does a great job at symbolizing all that is good and pure. In many cultures, the unicorn is a symbol of virginity. The unicorn was highly respected in many ancient cultures because of their many virtuous qualities.
In today’s films and books, the unicorn is usually depicted as a children’s animal. In fact, the My Little Pony franchise has unicorns in it. Countless coloring books and sticker packs have unicorns in them. Their sense of brutality has been lost, and now their purity is focused on. This change is somewhat drastic, but even though the unicorn myth has been around for centuries, it is still around today. It seems like the unicorn myth isn’t going anywhere soon.
