10 Tips For Healthy Hair

These days we see many adverts with models, men and women sporting glossy hair. We are told to buy this shampoo or that conditioner and we will meet the perfect soul mate. Well these home remedies for healthy hair might not bring that, but then again nor do the hair products but they will give you natural glowing hair again.

Before listing and discussing each of the specific hair tips, it is essential to note that nothing takes the place of a healthy, balanced diet with regular exercise and plenty of sleep, that is at least seven to nine hours a night.

Another thing to take into consideration is that some of those so called shine-promising shampoos and all-in-one solutions are actually bad for your hair! Not only will they not necessarily attract that dream lover shown in the glossy hair ad’ but they will make that hair of yours less healthy, less attractive to any would-be suitor!

So let’s look at each of the natural home remedy tips and the more commercial (synthetic) methods in turn and take some time to discuss each:-

1. Drink plenty of water

It is no surprise that like any other part of the body and cells, water is needed for hydration and cell re-generation and removal of dead cells. All of this results in both healthier looking skin and hair.

2. Shea Butter

This natural product can be applied directly to the hair. Alternatively a mixture of the following can be made and then applied: unrefined olive oil, Shea Butter, vitamin E oil and an essential oil (e.g. lavender oil).


3. Rinse With Cold Water

After shampooing and conditioning hair rinse with cold water not hot water. This closes the cuticle causing the hair to be more shiny.

4.  Protein

Simply eat lots of protein and this will make your hair glossier.

5. Egg & Milk Hair Mask

Yes you read correctly! Procedure as follows:

a. Mix 2 eggs and half a cup of milk together.

b. Apply the mixture to your hair.

c. Cover with a towel or shower cup for approximately 10 mins.

d. Then shampoo and condition your hair as you normally would.

6. Serum Gel Caps

Buy the serum gel caps you see at chemists and supermarkets. These essentially add silicone and oil to your hair, providing an extra natural-looking sheen. The method of application is to wet your hair and then work the serum into the hair from the base of the hair.

7. Minimize the usage of a hair dryer

Use a towel and either leave on the hair or to rubbing the hair is far better for retaining the natural gloss of hair. It also prevents frizziness and for men it reduces the incidence of hair loss.

8. Avoid 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner

These are not good for your hair in the long run as most good hairdressers will tell you.

9. Rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar

Wash your hair as usual and rinse with cold water.

Then apply a mixture of 2 cups of Apple Cider Vinegar to 1 Cup of water, rinse your hair with this blend. Then leave it on for up to 15 minutes. Completely rinse the mixture out of your hair with warm water until you can no longer smell the vinegar.

This can be done twice a week to retain untangled, soft, shiny hair.

10. Avoid flat irons or hair straighteners

You may love them before going out but your hair does not! They ultimately cause you to lose hair and certainly do not add to its thick glossy shine!

Other things to keep an eye out for are non-organic or non-natural styling treatments such as keratin. Considering all the above tips, one of the best rules of thumb is to keep the products you use for your hair as natural and organic as possible, avoid extreme heat, try to incorporate the usage of home remedy food rinses with your regular hair products and you will be amazed at the difference.

You may not get that Prince or Princess but you will get glossy, shiny hair!…but then again maybe you will 🙂
