What is Qigong?
Qigong is an ancient form of Chinese therapy or calming technique that uses a person’s inner chi, or positive energy, to make a person healthier, calmer, and more relaxed. With Qigong, chi is focused by using breathing techniques, certain postures of the body, and focusing your mental thoughts in a positive way.
There are several different styles of Qigong that are used for different reasons. A person can practice Qigong for spiritual, martial, or health-related reasons. Qigong healing is said to be able to circulate a person’s chi in a better way as it sometimes flows incorrectly or gets blocked.

You can do some easy and simple breathing techniques to try a meditative type of Qigong, or you can do something hard and physical like Kung Fu. Unlike some western practices, your intent matters when practicing Qigong. The more pure and focused that your thoughts and actions are, the better that the different types of Qigong will work for you.
If you are just starting out trying Qigong, then it would be advisable to try a simple mental practice. Simply taking deep breaths, clearing your mind, and relaxing is one way to practice Qigong. Once a person gets good at practicing mental Qigong, then they can move onto a more physical kind of practice. These external practices do less to calm your mind, but to strengthen your body.
These physical types of Qigong also need you to be mentally focused as well and physically in shape. A person starting out with physical Qigong may have troubles with this at first. Luckily, there is such a thing as a Qigong class that can help a person to learn the different physical aspects of Qigong. There are classes for mental practices of Qigong as well, but that type is easier to do at home.

There are many health benefits of practicing the different types of Chinese therapies like Qigong. Although, Qigong should be used with other medications or exercises instead of being used alone to cure a person’s body or mental problems. The physical aspect of Qigong can give anyone who tries it a great workout. Exercise in general is a great way to keep a person’s body, and even their mind, in great shape.
The mental types of Qigong has also been shown to help a person’s mental health. Stress can cause many health problems, and practicing Qigong is a great way to reduce stress. By reducing this stress, it can reduce many health problems as well. Qigong is a great addition to anyone’s life, no matter their age, religious beliefs, or cultural background. It’s simply a very healthy practice.
Types of Qigong Practices
There are a few basic types of mental and physical types of Qigong. A couple different types of mental or meditative practices are concentrative or mindfulness. Concentrative deals more with focusing on certain things in order to relax and calm down.
On the other hand, mindfulness deals more with focusing on nothing specific in general, but instead thinking of nothing and just focusing on your breathing or calming music. Both these types of meditation can help to relax a person and reduce their stress levels. Physical Qigong cover a number of things, such as different poses, ways of breathing, and some harder exercises like kung fu. There are many classes and online tutorials on different ways to do these poses and exercises.
