9 Foods For Bad Breath

Do you suffer from bad breath and find it embarrassing?

Then you don’t need to suffer any more. There are excellent foods that you can include in your diet to be rid of bad breath.

Here are 9 foods that can be used as home remedies and will make bad breath vanish from your life forever.

#1. Water

Bad breath can often be caused by dry mouth. The lack of saliva indicative to dry mouth can cause a stale feeling and smell. One of the easiest ways to combat this is simply by drinking water.

The water will act as a saliva substitute, preventing that stale dry mouth. Additionally, drinking water will help to wash away any left over food which can remain after eating and further aggravate bad breath.

#2. Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a great home remedy if you suffer from bad breath. Be sure to use unsweetened yoghurt if your breath is an issue though, as the added sugar could further your bad breath problems.

Yoghurt helps by reducing the levels of hydrogen sulphide in the body and mouth. Hydrogen sulphide has often been linked with breath odour. Additionally, the calcium in the dairy can help improve overall oral health.

#3. Cheese

Like yoghurt, this dairy product can help to improve bad breath. The calcium and vitamin D common in dairy will boost oral health, helping to prevent mouth odors. Cheese can also have a neutralizing affect on stomach and mouth acids, which are often prime causes of bad breath.

#4. Tea

Tea can help to cleanse your mouth, both preventing and eliminating bad breath. Polyphenols in black tea can help neutralize bacteria causing bad breath, and its byproducts.

The wetting of the mouth simply by drinking can also have a positive affect on bad breath, though high levels of caffeine can have an adverse effect. Be sure to drink tea in moderation to avoid over-caffeinated dry mouth.

#5. Orange Juice

Orange juice is a natural remedy that can be an easy delicious way to fight bad breath. Because it naturally is filled with so many vitamins, it is excellent for overall body and oral health. Specifically, the vitamin D found in commercial orange juice helps fight bad breath while vitamin C will boost the immune system and fight off infection and bacteria which can also cause odor.

#6. Apples

Apples are another fruit packed full of nutrients and vitamins that can help keep you healthy and fighting mouth infections. When it comes to bad breath, apples can be particularly helpful due to their texture.

Often referred to as ‘nature’s tooth brush’ the crunchy fibrous fruit helps get in between teeth and remove stuck in food and debris which can cause bad breath.

#7. Celery

Celery can be used in a very similar way to apples when it comes to fighting bad breath. Again it is the crisp firm texture which helps to get in between your teeth and naturally brush out leftover food. As a bonus celery is both extremely high in water content and extremely low in calories.

The added moisture can help to wash out food and odors, moistening the mouth, while being weight-conscious as chewing on celery actually burns more calories than you gain from eating it. This makes celery one of the best natural remedies to ‘brush’ your teeth after eating without adding to your meal.

#8. Cinnamon

Cinnamon, with it’s strong smell and taste may seem like a great way to mask odours, but in fact it does even more. Cinnamic aldehyde, the essential oil found in cinnamon, can help to prevent bad breath before it starts. It targets the bacteria causing the odour, which helps eliminate any signs of bad breath.

#9. Fennel Seed

Fennel, high in aniseed, is great natural home remedy for fighting off bad breath. Simply chewing on the seeds directly increases saliva production while working to eliminate mouth odors.

The strong taste and smell will mask any adverse odors while the excess saliva helps to naturally wash out the mouth.
