The Spiritual Implications of a Cosmic 2 x 4 Strike
You may have said, “Wow!” Did I receive a Cosmic 2 x 4 strike? Such a statement is old-fashioned theology dressed in New Thought garb. The phrase “cosmic two-by-four” means that you will find out or that someone outside of us is attempting to attract your attention to impart a valuable lesson. The inference is that someone “out there” (God, the cosmos) wants to control us for our benefit, even if that means hurting or upsetting us.
The idea that something is trying to get our attention to make us do what’s “right” so it can instruct us is a worldview that abdicates our responsibility and decision. Additionally, the onslaught becomes harsher with time until we eventually pay attention if we don’t “get it” on the first attempt.
A Cosmic 2 x 4 Strike: God the Good
We would want to scream, “Get Over It!” A Cosmic Two-By-Four doesn’t exist. Please read that sentence again. Yet again, I’m grateful. Cosmic Two-By-Four pine, oak, treated wood, galaxy laser, or anything else doesn’t exist. This “wooden” statement runs against the grain of the most well-known and revered Truth Principles since there is only One Power and One Presence in the cosmos, God the Good. We don’t think that God, the Good, punishes us with wooden bats, paddles made of wood, willow twigs, or any other “wooden explanations.”
We control the two-by-four that is entirely human, not cosmic! God does not punish or harm us; instead, it results from our bad choices and careless actions. We will continue to experience adverse outcomes as long as we keep choosing poorly.
A Cosmic 2 x 4 Strike: Learn From Experience
An “aha” moment may happen at a 2 x 4 instant. However, if we fail to learn from our experiences, we might continue to create 2 x 4 instances. “Aha,” moments are the outcome of a viewpoint shift, an epiphany that emerges from an intuitive burst of understanding. Two-by-four moments occur when we suddenly discover that our own fixed thinking patterns and belief systems are no longer logical. If we keep hitting ourselves with the proverbial 2 x 4, maybe it’s time to stop and consider the ideas, decisions, and deeds that, regrettably, led to our self-flagellation. It so happens that this consciousness is an inside-out awareness.
The notion that there is a cosmic 2 x 4 trying to catch your attention to teach you a valuable lesson is one of the self-deprecating presumptions we want you to compost. Using a cosmic 2×4 has never resulted in someone being struck. That’s not where it comes from.
