8 Simple Natural Home Remedies For Gum Pain

Everyone is likely to have gum pain at sometime in their life, and there are many reasons for this.

Poor dental hygiene, a sugary diet, or having a tooth recently removed or worked on. This article will give you some simple home remedies on how to prevent and treat your gum pain by using some simple and inexpensive tricks.

#1. Dental Hygiene

The best natural remedy to prevent gum pain is to take proper care of your teeth and the rest of your mouth.

You can do this easily by just making sure to brush your teeth, floss, and use mouthwash twice everyday. The cleaner that your mouth is, the less likely you are to suffer from gum pain.

#2. Special Toothpaste

If your normal toothpaste seems to be the problem, then there is toothpaste available that is especially made for people with sensitive teeth and gums.

Find toothpaste that fights tartar buildup, that has baking soda in it, that says it is for sensitive teeth, or that has fluoride in it. Often, you can find one toothpaste that will be able to do these things for you.

#3. Diet

Your diet can also affect your gum pain. While you are dealing with pain, you will want to avoid eating especially hot or cold foods, which can further hurt the area.

Avoiding very sweet or sour foods is also a good natural home remedy for gum pain as well. If your gums hurt too much after getting a tooth pulled or something similar, then you may want to stick to a liquid diet for a couple of days until the pain goes away to keep pressure off of your gums.

#4. Cold Compress

Even though eating cold foods can cause problems using a cold compress is a good home remedy, but this is because you don’t actually need to put it into your mouth.

You can wrap ice or a cold pack in a light towel and hold it to the outside of your mouth. Since the towel and your skin is in between the ice and your gum, it can help to soothe the area without causing additional discomfort.

#5. Salt Water Rinse

One of the best natural remedies to soothe your gum pain is to use a salt water rinse. Fill a cup with warm water and then add in a tablespoon of salt water. Mix the salt in the water thoroughly and then gargle the water one sip at a time.

Once done gargling, spit out the water and take another sip and do the same; repeat this until your water is gone. Once you are done, you may want to have a glass of salt-free water just to drink.

#6. Garlic Cloves

Chewing on, or sucking on, garlic cloves can also help to reduce tooth ache and gum pain. Cut a garlic clove in half. You can either suck on these half by putting one in either corner of your mouth, or you can chew on one half near the area that hurts. This should be able to numb the pain for a short while.

#7. Onion

Like garlic cloves, you can also chew on onion slices to reduce gum pain. Cut off a small part of an onion and chew on it near the area that hurts. This should be able to reduce the pain and swelling of the area if there is any. Do this as often as you need to.

#8. Vanilla

Lastly, you can also use vanilla to numb gum pain. Take a Q-tip and dip it in some vanilla oil and then rub this on your gums. This should help to reduce gum pain almost right away. Do this every few hours as needed.
