8 Natural Home Remedies For Hangnails

What Are Hangnails?

Hangnails are the parts of skin that hang off of the cuticle at awkward angles. This problem is mostly caused by dry skin. Cold weather, cleaning with chemicals, and biting your nails can also result in more hangnails than a person would normally get.

#1. Honey

Honey is a great home remedy that can be used to prevent and cure hangnails. Honey can be used as a great moisturizer. If you need to cure a hangnail, then rub some honey on your hangnail and let it sit for a couple of hours.

When the time is up, rinse off the honey. Do this at least once a day until your hangnail goes away. Honey can also be used to prevent hangnails. All you have to do is rub honey around your fingernails so that they can stay well-moisturized.

#2. Avocado

Using avocados as a natural remedy can help to heal your skin faster. Cut an avocado in half and take out the pulp. Mash up the pulp and mix in two tablespoons of coconut oil. Put this fix on and around your hangnail before you go to bed. If you have to, put a bandage around the mix so that it stays on your hangnail. Do this every night until your hangnail goes away.


#3. Almonds

Almonds are full of vitamin E, which is great for fixing hangnails. Soak a handful of almonds in a bowl of water overnight. In the morning, peel the skin off of the almonds and grind up what’s left of it. Mix the grounds with one egg yolk and a tablespoon of honey.

Store this somewhere until the nighttime. Before you go to bed, put this mix on your fingers. If you have to, you can wear a bandage or cotton gloves to keep the mix on. Do this every day until your hangnail goes away.

Aloe Vera gel is another natural home remedy that is great at healing hangnails and moisturizing your skin to prevent hangnails from reoccurring. You can get gel directly from the Aloe Vera plant, or you can buy gel in bottles. Rub this gel around your fingers at least once everyday to prevent and get rid of hangnails.

#5. Yogurt

Yogurt is great for painful hangnails. Yogurt has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce the pain of hangnails. Also, they can help to moisturize the skin, which can prevent hangnails. Put plain yogurt on your fingernails at least once everyday for a few hours. Do this at least once a day to get rid of and to prevent hangnails.


#6. Epsom Salt

Soaking your hangnails in water with epsom salt in it can reduce inflammation and pain. It can also help to heal your hangnails faster.
