8 Natural Home Remedies For Drowsiness

There never seems like there are enough hours in a day. There’s so much that you have to do, and you’re likely to be tired because of it.

Some simple things that you are doing could be causing you to feel drowsy during the day without your even knowing that you’re doing anything wrong. Just as well, there are simple things that you can do during the day to make yourself feel more energized. Follow these simple lifestyle home remedies to help yourself to feel more awake during the day, naturally.

#1. Get a Sleep Schedule

Getting a proper sleeping schedule is one of the best natural remedies to keep yourself from feeling drowsy during the day. This is just as simple as it sounds.

Everyone knows that kids need a bedtime so that they can feel awake and do well in school. Many adults forget how helpful having a bedtime can be as well. Try to go to bed at the same time every day. This will help your body to feel sleepy at night when it is supposed to, instead of during the day. Also, setting an alarm and waking up at the same time every day can also help to condition yourself to feel more awake during the day.

#2. Get Enough Sleep

Once you have a sleep schedule made up, you need to make sure that you are actually getting enough sleep. Different people need different amounts of sleep to function well. For example, I personally need around ten hours of sleep to feel good, but one of my roommates can function just fine on five hours of sleep. Find your sleep time and set your sleep schedule around it. If you can’t get enough sleep at night, then make sure that you take small naps, less than an hour long each, during the day.

#3. Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol

Although caffeine works as a quick pick-me-up when you need a burst of energy, it does a terrible job at actually making you keep feeling awake all day. Drinking too much caffeinated drinks or alcohol can actually make it harder for you to fall asleep at night.

This will make it harder for you to feel more awake during the day. It’s also not the best idea to begin your day with a couple of cups of coffee either. Try drinking decaf coffee or tea in the morning instead as this is the best natural remedy for drowsiness.

#4. Exercise in the Morning

Beginning your day with exercise is a great natural remedy to help you to wake up in the morning, as well as keep feeling awake during the day. Even just exercising for half an hour can get you the energy to help you to get through your day. Of course, exercising at any time of day can help you to feel more energized, but exercising in the morning is the best if you have the time for it.

#5. Less Screen Time

Screen time, time staring at computers or TVs or phones, can easily tire out your eyes. Along with tiring your eyes, it can also tire out your mind. The less screen time you have, the more awake you are bound to feel. It’s also best to avoid screens for the first twenty minutes that you are awake and for the last twenty minutes before you go to sleep. This home remedy can help you to feel awake during the day and become sleepier at night.

#6. More Sun Time

Time in the sun is great at tiring out kids, so why can’t it tire out adults as well? Staying outside when it’s light out it is a great way to feel awake.

These healthy foods can give your body the energy that you need to energize your body. Some foods that will tire you out more easily are foods that are high in sodium, sugar, or fat. Try to avoid these foods to feel less drowsy.

#8. Vitamin C

Lastly, getting in enough vitamin C is a great natural home remedy to feel more awake. It’s really easy to get your daily amount of vitamin C. Eat more citrus fruits or take some vitamin supplements.
