8 Home Remedies For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

8 Home Remedies For Excessive Bleeding (Periods)

Excessive period bleeding, or menorrhagia, can be caused by many things. A couple of common causes are hormonal imbalance (usually in older women) and nutritional imbalances. Other causes are more serious diseases or complications. If you have excessive bleeding, you know it, and you don’t need me to define it for you.

If you have excessive bleeding during your period, then all you want is relief. Follow these natural home remedies to learn how to control your bleeding, along with other painful menstrual symptoms. If your situation does not improve, then you may want to talk to your doctor, just in case your bleeding is caused by something more serious.


#1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Drinking apple cider vinegar is a great natural remedy to lessen your bleeding. Apple cider vinegar helps to get rid of extra toxins in the body, along with getting rid of some of the things that cause extra bleeding to occur. If you are bleeding too much, then dilute some apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Drink this at least once a day until your flow goes back to a normal level. You can continue this home remedy to try to keep your bleeding more regular.

#2. Avoid Soy

Soy contains small amounts of estrogen, so eating it every once in a while shouldn’t hurt. But if you are consuming a lot of soy – drinking soy milk or eating tofu, then you may want to consider cutting it out of your diet. It’s hard to cut out soy entirely since it’s in many processed foods. If this helps, them stay away from it. If it doesn’t change anything, then feel free to go back to eating soy products.

#3. Cinnamon

Drinking cinnamon tea is a great natural home remedy to reduce bleeding. However, taking in too much cinnamon can cause extra bleeding. Make tea with a cup of warm water and half of a tablespoon of cinnamon. Do this once in the morning and again in the evening. Do this throughout your period. Cinnamon can also help to relieve some menstrual cramp pain.


#4. Dried Apricots

Sometimes excessive bleeding can be caused by low iron levels. If you are hesitant on taking supplements, then you may want to try eating dried apricots. A cup of dried apricots contains about 20% of your daily recommended iron intake. Try to eat more apricots and other iron-rich foods.

#5. Coconut Oil

Taking a tablespoon of coconut oil can lessen period bleeding. Take this when your period starts to make sure that you end up bleeding less. When you do this, your period may stop for a few hours. Do this once a day during your period. You may miss a day or two from your period, but once your period comes back it should be much lighter.

#6. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is a tricky thing to deal with. Too much of it can hurt you, but a little bit can help a whole lot. Take half a tablespoon of epsom salt in a glass of water a couple of days before you expect your period to start. This should help to lessen bleeding, stomach bloating, and cramping. Also, there’s the bonus of only having to do this herbal remedy once a month.

Tomato juice, when taken everyday, can help to improve the flow in your period blood. Tomato juice contains vitamins that may help to make you bleed less. This could have something to do with just having a balanced diet.

Try to incorporate a glass of tomato juice into your diet everyday, and if you can’t, then at least try to get in a good amount of fruits and vegetables.

Tea helps to calm the body, and it’s generally very healthy and can help with many of the body’s natural functions. Red raspberry tea is one of the best natural remedies for helping with many period symptoms. Drink this tea throughout the day when you are on your period. This should help to reducing bleeding, bloating and cramps.
