10 Top Home Remedies For Abscess
Local accumulation of puss caused by infection is called an abscess. It can occur anywhere in the body, but it generally occurs on the skin and on the gums of the mouth.
They are inflamed and are very painful. Abscesses are generally treated with antibiotics but they can be treated with some common home remedies and herbal remedies.
#1. Raw Potato
Raw potato is a natural home remedy for treating abscess. Slice potato to one inch thick slice. Place it on the boil and secure it with a tape. It soothes the boil and draws poisons from the boil and helps to reduce the abscess.
Turmeric is a well known anti inflammatory and anti bacterial spice. It can therefore be effectively used for treating abscesses. You can use turmeric in many natural remedies. You can grind fresh turmeric root with a little water and apply the paste to the abscess or you may make a paste by mixing turmeric powder with a little milk or water and apply on the abscess, cover it with cotton and leave it. This will reduce inflammation, fights infection and helps in reducing the abscess. Adding a couple of teaspoons of turmeric to hot milk and drinking it will also provide relief from the boil.
#3. Raw Onion
Place thick slices of onion directly on the boil and bandage it. Onion is a natural remedy that has antiseptic properties and helps to draw fresh blood to the affected area and thus provides relief. Please note that the onion slices need to be changed every two or three hours.
#4. Pomegranate Peel
Dry pomegranate peels and grind it into a fine powder. Make a past mixing this powder with some lemon juice. Apply this paste directly on to the abscess. Pomegranate fights bacteria, improves immune system and helps in providing relief from abscess.
Take a handful of fresh neem leaves and grind them to form a paste. Apply this paste on the boil or abscess. Neem leaves have antiseptic properties and helps to draw away the poison from the boil or the abscess. Repeat this till the abscess is cured.
#6. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an excellent natural remedy and disinfectant. It also has anti viral and anti microbial properties and therefore helps in curing the abscess. Soak a cotton ball in tea tree oil and place it directly on the abscess. Tape it up to keep it in position. This helps in soaking the poison and drying the abscess quickly.
#7. Hot Pack
Take lavender oil and add about ten drops of this oil to hot water. Dip a towel or wash cloth in this water, squeeze out excess water. Place the cloth on the abscess and keep it there till it cools. Repeat this a few times. You will get relief from the abscess.
#8. Belladonna Plaster
Cover the abscess with belladonna plaster. It is best suited in the early stage. It will help in increasing the flow of blood in the affected area. This will bring antibodies and WBC to the affected area and helps fight the infection and provides relief.
#9. Magnesium Sulphate
Apply magnesium sulphate paste to the affected area. The paste acts in two ways. It helps in drawing the puss to the affected area. It also helps in creating an opening for the pus to drain. Once the pus starts flowing out it can be forced out by compressing the boil. It is advisable to apply this paste to the abscess in the night and cover the area with sterilized cotton.
