10 Natural Home Remedies For Foot Fungus

Anyone can get foot fungus, but it is the most common in athletes and people with diabetes. Foot fungus is highly contagious, and if you have it you should not share anything with anyone else.

Foot fungus is most easily spread in damp environments, like locker rooms. A lack of hygiene skills could also support fungal growth.

Follow these simple home remedies to learn how to prevent and cure your foot fungus.

#1. Showering Tips

If your shower has mold in it, then you will want to clean that out as soon as possible. You can do this by scrubbing it down with diluted bleach. If you are at a gym, wear sandals into the shower. Make sure that you scrub your feet with soap when you shower. When you are done showering make sure that you dry off your feet well before putting your socks and shoes back on. The last thing you want is moisture getting stuck in your socks and causing more fungus.

#2. Toenails Care

Fungus can also be caught underneath your toenails if you don’t take proper care of them. Along with the showering tips listed above, you should also make sure that you cut your toenails regularly and treat any cuts that may occur near your toenails. The easiest natural remedy to clean around your toenails is to soak your feet in warm soapy water.

#3. Shoes & Socks

The shoes and socks that you wear can also affect your foot fungus. Try wearing cotton socks, as they can allow your feet to breathe, and this will help them from retaining moisture. Also, try to avoid wearing sandals too often, as they expose your feet to environments that could have fungus in them. It’s best to wear shoes that cover your whole foot, but still allow your foot to breathe.

#4. Don’t Share!

If you are in a locker room, then the odds are that someone there has foot fungus. Do not share sandals or towels, as foot fungus can easily transfer from person to person this way. Keep your towel dry until you need it as well. Make sure that you dry off your feet completely before putting on your shoes. Also, you may want to rinse off your sandals after showering.

#5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is great at getting rid of foot fungus and getting rid of the inflammation that often comes with it. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with four parts of water. Soak your feet in this mix for twenty minutes. Do this once a day until your foot fungus is gone.

#6. Tea Tree Oil

You can also soak your feet in a tea tree oil and water solution. Tea tree oil is a great natural remedy at killing the bacteria that can promote fungal growth. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil into a foot bath and soak your feet for twenty minutes a day. If you do not have sensitive skin, then you can put tea tree oil on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the fungal area, but this may sting a bit. Do either of these things once a day until your foot fungus is gone.

#7. Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is a great home remedy at cleaning up infections. If you have foot fungus, then it is likely that your skin will become dry and cracked, which can make it vulnerable to infection. If you get a cut on your foot, rinse it out with rubbing alcohol as soon as you can. This will kill any bacteria that could cause a more serious infection. You can use rubbing alcohol to clean wounds and cuts in general as well.

#8. Baking Soda

Baking soda is great at killing bacteria and getting rid of fungus, making it a perfect solution for foot fungus. Mix equal parts of water with baking soda and mix the two until they make a paste. Rub this paste on your feet and let it sit for twenty minutes. When the time is up, rinse off your feet with cold water and make sure that you thoroughly dry them before putting on socks and shoes.

#9. Garlic

You can use garlic in a couple of different ways to get rid of your foot fungus. You can crush a clove of garlic, and then rub it on your feet and let it sit for about twenty minutes everyday. You can also add more garlic to your diet as a way of curing your body from the inside out. If you do this, try to add a clove of garlic to your diet everyday until your foot fungus is cleared up.

#10. Diabetes

If you have diabetes then you are at a higher risk for getting foot fungus, or fungal infections of any kind. These home remedies may not work for you if you are not treating your diabetes properly. Try to take care of your diabetes, and then try these home remedies to see if they help. Talk to your doctor about the best way to take care of your diabetes.
