10 Natural Home Remedies For Menopause

Menopause is a natural part of life, even if it’s not pleasant at first. Many women get menopause around their forties or fifties. Menopause happens when a female stops producing reproducing. You can no longer get pregnant, but you also won’t have periods anymore.

#1. Exercise

One great natural remedy to keep yourself feeling good, even through menopause, is to make sure that you are getting in enough exercise. A healthy person should exercise for at least half an hour a day, and even up to an hour a day.

If you currently don’t exercise, then start small. If you already exercise, then good for you! Keep it up! Exercise is a great way to stay healthy, menopause or not.

These exercises don’t involve going to the gym. Kegel exercises are exercises that are meant to strengthen your pelvic muscles. I’ll do my best to explain how it’s done. You know those muscles that you use to control how strongly you urinate?

Try to tighten and relax these muscles throughout the day. Squeeze the muscles for three seconds at a time, about ten times in a row. Add an extra second in for each week you continue this. If you can get up to ten seconds at a time, then you’re in good shape. Note, it’s a bad idea to do this while actually urinating, as it can hurt your bladder.

Smoking is all around bad for everyone, especially women who are going through menopause. Smoking increases the risk of you getting a heart attack, along with other serious complications. Smoking can actually make menopause occur earlier in a woman’s life. It is best to quit smoking as soon as you can, and not to start if you haven’t already.

#4. Limit Unhealthy Foods

Foods with extra sugars and fats are no good for you, or anyone, really. Try to avoid fast food, along with limiting junk food and processed foods. Try to make more of your meals at home, and incorporate healthy snacks into your day. The best natural home remedy is to try to keep your meals balanced, and try not to give into the cravings of greasy food.

#5. Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol

Caffeine and alcohol are both bad for you, but for different reasons. When going through menopause, it’s important that you get enough sleep. Drinking caffeine can make it harder to sleep, which drinking alcohol can make it harder to stay asleep. Caffeinated drinks often are full of sugars that you don’t need. Alcohol, can also work as a depressant, which means it’s great to avoid. If you are going to stick with either of these, do so in moderation.


#6. Relax

Stress can make menopause symptoms all the more uncomfortable. Do your best to avoid things that stress you, and find a way to calm down when you do get stressed. Have a go-to movie or book. Find a quiet place away from all of your stressors to go to when you need to. Many people also claim yoga to be one of the best natural remedies that is very helpful when it comes to stress relief.

#8. Keep Ice Packs Near

If you commonly have hot flashes or night sweats, then you should always know where you can find ice. If you can, keep an ice pack or cold water near your bed at night. When you do need to use an ice pack or ice, try not to put it directly on your skin for long periods of time, as this can cause minor nerve damage.

A healthy person should drink, 8 glasses of water a day, and even more if you work out or live in a hot climate. Try to keep cold water bottles with you, as this can help if you are struck by a hot flash.

Another home remedy for hot flashes is to dress in layers. You don’t want to be unprepared when a hot flash hits. It may seem silly to dress in so many clothes, but it really can help. It’s good to have a sweater with you when a chill hits you, and a T-shirt on when you feel a hot flash coming on.
