This is the calculator to find the dignities of your planets. Every planet is a ruler of a zodiac sign. Planet Mercury rules over Gemini and Virgo. Planet Venus rules over the zodiac signs of Taurus and Libra. Planet Mars rules over the zodiac signs of Aries and Scorpio.
Planet Jupiter rules over the zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Pisces. Saturn rules over the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Planet Uranus, one of the modern planets, was discovered on March 13, 1781, by William Herschel.
This planet was given as lord over Aquarius, so now Aquarius has its very own ruler Uranus. Neptune was mathematically predicted by Urbain Le Verrier and was discovered on September 23, 1846, by astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle.
Neptune was given as lord over Pisces, so now Pisces has its very own ruler Neptune. Pluto was discovered on February 18, 1930, by Clyde W. Tombaugh. Pluto was given as lord over Scorpio, so now Scorpio has its very own ruler Pluto.
This leaves us with Gemini and Virgo still sharing Mercury. It is destined by many astrologers that soon Virgo will have its planet discovered. Also, this still leaves us with Taurus and Libra still sharing Venus.
It is not known or widely discussed if either one will someday acquire its planet to be ruled over. There exist two terms in tropical astrology that refer to the dignities of the planets: Exaltation, Detriment, and Fall.
A planet can be in its sign that it rules which gives the planet its harmonious power with nothing extraordinary. It simply is in its right place and knows how to work efficiently. However, a planet can be in its sign of exaltation which, depending on the planet can be the same sign it rules or a different zodiac sign. A planet in a sign of exaltation has the greatest power of expression.
A planet in its fall sign is debilitated in expressing itself. Its power is weakened extensively. A planet in its detriment sign has difficulty expressing itself positively but still retains its power more so than if it was in its fall sign.
A planet is in its detriment zodiac sign when it is in the opposite zodiac sign that it naturally rules over. Whichever zodiac sign a planet is exalted in, then it is the opposite of that sign of which it will be in its fall sign.
