Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate. It derives its name from the bitter saline spring at Epsom, in Surrey, in England. Epsom salt has been known for years as a natural remedy for many ailments. In addition to the immense health benefits it offers, Epsom salt also widely used as a beauty aid. It has many house hold uses. It also has a number of gardening applications. Magnesium and sulphates offer many benefits to the body. They are also easily absorbable by the skin. Therefore, Epsom salt makes a very good salt bath which has numeral health benefits.

Epsom salt dissolved in warm water is easily absorbed by the body through the skin. Stress drains magnesium from the system. Magnesium produces a chemical called serotonin which calms you and helps you to feel relaxed and good.

Two or three tea spoons of Epsom salt mixed in a bowl of hot water makes a good bath solution for treating gout. Immerse the affected joint or foot in the bath and soak for about half an hour. Ensure that the water is as hot as it can be tolerated. This treatment will relieve discomfort from gout.
