I Ching Hexagram 29: 坎 “The Abysmal” – K’an

What Is I Ching Hexagram 29: 坎”The Abysmal” ?

K’an is the Chinese name of the I Ching Hexagram 29. With inner and outer trigrams forming water over water, this Hexagram is called ‘the abysmal’ or alternatively named ‘gorge’ or ‘repeated entrapment’. Hexagram 29 is a warning to keep a level head during a difficult situation that has caused anger, frustration, and despair.

When we are angered, it is easy to ‘fly off the handle’ and overreact to the problem. Using words of rage and hurt will not fix the problem, but more times than less, will make the event a lot worse.

It is hard to keep a level head and a clear conscious when dealing with any dangerous situation. It is human nature to lash out when we feel threatened. Being determined to endure the situation in order to progress will allow an individual to deal with the situation wisely.

Interpretation & Meaning of IChing Hexagram 29: 坎"The Abysmal" - K’an

Interpretation & Meaning of Hexagram 29:

Accurate IChing Forecasts

Hexagram 29 calls for a clear composure when dealing with a difficult situation or conflict. There are many instances that will trigger a violent reaction within us. When someone we don’t know or understand uses harsh words against us, it is tempting to produce the same actions. Often walking away from the situation will prevent us from making a random conflict into a violent occurrence.

When put in the position to deal with a conflict that often sparks fierce emotions, look to find a salutation that will resolve the problem instead of reacting in a way that will only make it worse. This can mean mediation between the members who are fighting.

This will help you gain a new perspective that might be willing to help bring closer to the problem. Other times, simply walking away from the problem to make a reappearance later can often calm down a situation long enough to gain a clear head.

I Ching Hexagram 29 – Personal Goals:

When you feel threatened by either verbal abuse or written letters, instead of reacting to the threat in the same tone, use this time to strengthen yourselves against adversity.

I Ching Hexagram 29 – Love:

In a relationship with a loved one, it is vital to not permit a quarrel to become vicious or gloomy. An emotional outburst will only worsen the problem and cause a larger problem. Practice with holding feelings of rage and anger in order to prevent throwing logs onto a burning fire.

I Ching Hexagram 29 – Career & Business:

During a dangerous phase in your career or business, it is important to remain positive throughout the outcome. Prepare yourself against those who wish to bring you down but don’t catastrophize the situation. Spending time contemplating what may happen will often bring your focus away from what is actually happening.

Never give up during these time periods and instead encourage yourself to seek help and guidance. The right advice can help bring a new light into the problem and help to sound the correct answer.

The Abysmal repeated.
If you are sincere, you have success in your heart,
And whatever you do succeeds.

Water flows on uninterruptedly and reaches its foal:
The image of the Abysmal repeated.
Thus the superior man walks in lasting virtue
And carries on the business of teaching.

There is no need to feel helpless when there are many resolutions to this problem. Hexagram 29 gives a clear signal to start preparing against these difficulties through both mental and physical training. Learning to deal with this situation only comes through the experience of a difficult time.

Remember that all things in life are temporary and even this time will not last forever. Often this particular time of conflict comes from a person or group of people wishing to tear down an individual in order to remove them from a certain path.

There will be many in the world who wish to get rid of a person in order to succeed, but there are ways to fight against this aggression. The best way to get through a disturbing conflict that is very threatening is to treat others with kindness. Often they will not expect this reaction and will leave.
