Varicose & Spider Veins
We all know as we age that we are prone to getting skin blemishes. In the same manner we are likely to get annoying skins taints such as varicose veins and spider veins. This is especially the case if your parents have had them. You see they run in families, oh joy!
As can be seen from the image, varicose and spider veins respectively can be pretty ugly and embarrassing especially when you are at the beach or in the pool!
8 Ways To Reduce Spider & Varicose Veins
But there is hope, there are ways to reduce or even prevent both of these outward skin defects. Here are a few tips to reduce, remove or reverse unsightly varicose veins or spider veins:
Exercise as much as you can without overdoing. Walking and swimming are both two very good forms of exercise.
#2. Wear Loose Clothes
Avoid tight fitting clothing. This includes socks, shorts or anything that can potentially restrict blood flow.
#3. Reduce Salt & Sugar Intake
Reduce the amount of sugar and especially salt in your diet and at the same time reduce your overall weight. Varicose veins often occur when people have been overweight and unfortunately remain even after they have lost that weight.
#4. Right Posture
Try and avoid putting your legs in set position, especially crossing them in a cramped position. This encourages the development of varicose veins especially.
#5. Avoid Cramped Traveling
Air travel is a major way that people get pre-DVT or varicose veins. The best way if you do travel a lot or at all is to walk up and down the plane aisle regularly in loose socks or even bare feet.
#6. Water Therapy
Get into the habit of walking through water up to knee depth. This is very good for alleviating existing varicose veins.
This is more drastic admittedly but much more common nowadays than 20-30 years ago. However with precise keyhole day surgery being the preferred method, this is not as invasive as was the case even 10 years ago. Essentially the varicose veins are heated using a tiny laser.
The vessels burst (Endovenous Vein Ablation) and the material can be removed with a tiny crochet like hook (Phlebecotomy). The day surgery operations can be conducted simultaneously and are done under anesthetic taking a total of 30 minutes.
Within 30 minutes the patient is up walking to get the newly refreshed veins working efficiently again, the pools of blood and veins having been unclogged.
In a similar manner spider veins which are more superficial can be removed using the schlerotherapy procedure. Again an incision is made and the vein is collapsed either using ultrasound or laser technology.
There are more and more natural supplements coming onto the vitamin market all the time. One such supplement reduces varicose veins by relying on knowledge of minerals which help circulation. Essentially both varicose veins and spider veins are signs of a poor circulatory system. One such supplement is called Circulation Support by Nutralife.
It is worth noting that there are now many nutrient supplements and pharmaceutical agents plus herbal remedies in the market for spider veins. They can generally be removed permanently more readily than more noticeable ugly varicose veins!
Here are a few addition methods for reducing or removing varicose and spider veins in addition to the day surgery options:
- Eat lots of bioflaveonoids; these are in Garlic, Spinach, Red Bell Peppers, Strawberries and Broccoli.
- Butcher’s broom, St. John’s wort, and witch hazel are herbs which reduce the inflammation associated with varicose veins. Lavender can also be applied directly to the inflamed area as can chamomile, yarrow, horse chestnut. (Read about Bach flower remedies).
- The same applies for Rosemary which can be applied directly or added in liberal quantities to food. Berries, cherries or plums all rich in flavenoids as indicated by their deep red or purple coloring are excellent when eaten for reducing varicose veins.
- Since varicose veins are caused by the blood either leaking out of the veins or forming pools instead of being pumped to the heart, placing the leg up vertically for 10 minutes a day can also help improve leg circulation.
So you can see from all of the above home remedies as well as allopathy, there are lots of ways to reduce, stall, reverse or eliminate those ghastly, unsightly varicose and spider veins. I know how it feels having gotten to my mid-forties and inheriting my parents bad legs suddenly! Then if you find they are not going away quick enough, opt for the day surgery procedures.
Remember you might think it is vanity that has you concerned. However take note that if you do not address the veins, especially varicose veins they can get worse and eventually form clots. When clots form you talking pre-Deep Vein Thrombosis, (DVT) and potentially heart disease or strokes.
So if someone jokes about you being vain about your veins, tell them it is about your long-term health too. Often being pro-active and pre-empting future health issues, tackling them head on is the best strategy!
By using a combination of natural remedies, changes to diet, exercise, wearing loose clothing and possibly undertaking one of the many non-invasive day surgery procedures the required transformations are possible.
