8 Signs That You Have An Eating Disorder
Many people know someone with an eating order. It is a highly common problem in today’s world, especially since thinner people tend to be the ones that are more glamorized. Eating disorders can affect people as young as teenagers and as old as mothers of teenagers.
Of course, eating disorders are not discriminatory of gender, anyone can have them. Many people who have an eating disorder may not even be aware that they have one. If you don’t know if you have an eating disorder, then check these eight tips to find out.
#1. Extreme/Frequent Dieting
Are you obsessed with trying every new diet? Or do you diet to the extreme, limiting your calories as much as possible? If you do either of these things than you may have an eating disorder. Both extreme and frequent dieting is terrible for your body, and it can actually make it harder for a person to lose weight. Instead of trying to eat much less food, try eating more healthier food.
#2. Skipping Meals
Do you consistently skip meals, not because you’re running late, but because you want to lose weight? If you skip meals on purpose you may have an eating disorder. If you are trying to lose weight in a healthy way, then this is not the way to do it. People who skip meals usually make up for it in snacks later, so it is really just putting a lot of effort into a task that doesn’t pay off. Try to remember to eat all your meals.
#3. Binge Eating
On the other end of the spectrum, do you binge eat? Not all eating disorders happen because people are trying to lose weight. Even overweight people can have eating disorders. If you are constantly eating after you are already full, and then eating some more until you feel sick, then it is likely that you have an eating disorder. Try to organize times for when you eat, and only eat until you are full.
#4. Exercising Too Often
Of course, it’s great to exercise to keep yourself in shape, but if you obsess over going to the gym for hours a day, then you may have an eating disorder. It is healthy to exercise for about 150 minutes a week. If you exercise to burn all of your calories, and then much more than that, then you may be in trouble. Try to worry less about exercising.
#5. Obsessive Calorie Counting
Are you worried about how much you are eating all of the time? If you are, then you may have an eating disorder. If you are on a simple diet, then you might want to count calories to make sure that you are staying on it, but if you are counting calories for every single thing that you eat all of the time, then you might have a problem. Stop worrying so much. A few extra calories are not likely to make you gain much weight.
#6. Vomiting or Using Laxatives to Lose Weight
If you force yourself to vomit or use laxatives solely to lose weight, then it is almost sure that you have an eating disorders. Doing either or both of these things are extremely dangerous to your health. You should try to quit doing them as soon as possible. Talk to a friend or family member for support.
#7. Drinking Your Calories
Another way people can have an eating disorder is if they eat very little so that they can drink calorie-filled alcoholic beverages later. This is a terrible combination, and if you do this then it is likely that you have an eating disorder. Sure, maybe doing it once is okay for a special event is okay, but doing it every weekend is extremely dangerous. Try to drink less and eat more if you do this.
#8. Low Self-Esteem
While this one may not actually involve eating, it can lead to an eating disorder over time. If you constantly compare yourself to celebrities or even other pretty people, then you may have an eating disorder. If you let your body determine how you feel about yourself, then you are likely to develop an eating disorder of some sort. Many teenagers have a problem with this, so it is good to find someone who makes you feel good about yourself early on. Not many people can look like celebrities, and often, the celebrities you see in pictures don’t even look like themselves in real life.
