If you have been diagnosed with the mumps, then it is best that you stay away from other people. Mumps is contagious and can be spread to anyone that hasn’t been vaccinated.
You should be alone, or make sure that your child is away from other people, at least until the infection goes away. Mumps are most contagious during the first five days or so.
#2. Bed Rest
When you are sick with mumps, the best natural remedy is to rest as much as you can. Over-exerting yourself isn’t going to make you better.
You need to take it easy and sleep well so that your body has more energy to fight off the infection. Besides, mumps usually comes with fatigue, so you’ll probably be exhausted if you have the infection anyway.

A healthy person needs to drink eight glasses of water a day, but a sick person should drink even more than that. The best home remedy while you are sick is to take in plenty of fluids. It is important that you stay hydrated if you want to heal faster.
#4. Liquid Meals
When you have mumps it is hard to chew, or even painful to chew. You should try to stick to liquid meals or even just soft foods. Try to avoid eating food that requires a lot of chewing. Also, you should try to limit your intake of highly acidic food.
When you are sick you should make sure to get many fruits and vegetables into your diet. Eating healthy foods can help to boost your immune system, healing you faster.
Along with fruits and vegetables, you should eat lean meats (like fish) and avoid red meats (beef, and pork). Nuts can also be added to your diet.

One natural home remedy to reduce the pain of your swollen glands is to treat them with heat and cold. Putting warm items, like heating pads, on your glands may help to loosen up the muscles.
Putting cold packs on the glands can numb the pain, at least for a little while. You should avoid putting ice directly on your face, as this could cause major damage.
Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties and is one of the best home remedies that can reduce the pain of mumps. Mix a tablespoon of ground ginger with the same amount of water. Mix the two together until they form a paste.
Rub the paste on your cheeks and under your jaw. Let the paste dry, and they rub it off with cool water later. Do this a few times a day for at least a week.

Baking soda can be used in the same way as ginger can. Do the exact same things that you would do with ginger, but do it with baking soda again. This may not work as well as ginger, but it is more likely that you already have baking soda at home.
